Our annual "Caps For A Cure" fundraiser at Thatcher
Schools did well this year. We raised $512.50. Here's
how it works: The week prior
to Labor Day Weekend, the principals and teachers
get their kids excited about how they can help in
finding a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. Each child
who brings $1 to their teacher anytime during
this week is allowed to wear a cap to school on
Friday. This is such an easy way to help out and
the kids LOVE it! My nephew, Tyler, has a
neurological disorder called Charcot-Marie-Tooth
disease (CMT) that causes weakness and
atrophy of the muscles of the hands and lower legs,
with foot deformities and some loss of sensation in
the feet. Tyler walks with leg braces, but for longer
distances uses a wheelchair. Each year Tyler goes
to the telethon to make our communities donation
on live television. This year in addition to making
our donation, Tyler and his family will be featured
in a videotaped profile during the national broadcast
of the telethon. It will air on Monday, September 1st
in the 10th hour of the program. This would be
in the 4:00 (a.m.) hour for those who live in Arizona.
