Never A Dull Moment!

This morning around 3:30 something woke me up. I layed in bed for a few minutes listening and heard Ranger barking. I went to the bathroom and all of the sudden I hear Ranger doing that high-pitched "somethings wrong" bark. I got dressed and went outside looking toward Ranger. When I turned my flashlight on I saw not only one, but two sets of eyes. I realized the second
set belonged to a coyote. I ran inside and grabbed the .22 because it was the "quiet" gun and didn't want to startle our neighbors. I woke Kaiden up and told him to come help me. I was going to have to call Ranger off and control him and wanted Kaiden to shoot the coyote if it came after us. At this point, I realized it was actually inside our fenced yard. I finally got Ranger and took him to the garage where I quickly looked him over to make sure he wasn't injured. Kaiden was trying to get the coyote to move away from the neighbors so we could safely shoot it. After
several shots, we thought he was dead. I called the Sheriff's Department to let them know what was going on in case they got "shots fired" calls. Figuring that Grandpa was awake, Kaiden called him to report his "first kill" of the season. We looked out the back window and the damn thing was still trying to get up. This time I took the shotgun out. I was sure that did the trick. Twenty minutes later we went out to remove it from our yard. To our fright and surprise, it threw it's head back and tried to get up AGAIN! We back away and I fired one round into him with my
handgun. This time it was over. The phone range and I thought it would be dispatch calling about the loud shots. To my surprise, it was Grandpa Steven. He said, "What the hell is going on? I heard another shot!" The live about two miles away and still heard them. He wanted to know if we had some kind of bionic coyote with a crazy will to live. Well. . . Ranger is now quarantined for ten days to make sure he didn't get exposed to rabies. I was proud of him. As soon as I walked out he was there to protect me and to make sure I wasn't hurt. Hopefully the next ten days will prove that he too is okay. Life is always and adventure at the Morris home!

Steven was right, that does make a great blog story! That's just crazy! Coyotes really are wiley, though. Keep us posted on Ranger.

I have to tell you that I teach reading lessons to a boy that's in Justin's class once a week. This week he was very excited to tell me the story of the early morning coyote shooting that Justin had talked about that day. The story I heard involved about 6 different guns, though, and at least 20 shots! I thought it was pretty funny. - And with my corney sense of humor I just thought, "Huh, the shots heard around the valley!" :)

I hear them all the time because we keep the window open. Thanks for getting rid of it. One less to worry about. Go ahead and use the loudest gun you want next time. We won't mind!

What an adventure! I can always count on Randy for a good story! Some guys have all the fun! I love that he woke Kaiden up to help, I am always impressed at what a tough kid he is. Watch out, real cowboys are in "High Demand" (so I hear!) Love you guys and I am hoping Ranger is OK, keep me posted.

okay, so Ellisa told me this was Randy's story and not Lori's. I'm glad Lori wasn't the one out there shooting crazy coyotes. I am still impressed with Randy and Kaiden. That was one crazy story!
